Investigation of the effect of copper, brass and graphite electrode on electrical discharge machining of mild steel grade IS2062

2020
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an emerging alternative of traditional machining techniques like drilling, milling and grinding. EDM is the most widely used non-traditional machining process due to its capability of producing a complex profile. Electrically conductive material like copper, brass, aluminum, copper-tungsten, graphite is some materials which are most widely used as electrode tool in EDM. In this paper, copper, brass and graphite are used as an electrode material on mild steel IS2062. The effect of this aforementioned electrode material on the rate of material removal (MRR), rate of tool wear (TWR) and surface roughness of EDMed surface (SR) has been studied in this present research work. The peak current (IP) was varied during the experiment, and the effect of IP on the aforementioned responses has also been discussed in this article.
