Development of an FCC Pretreatment Catalyst with High HDN Activity

2007
New fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) pretreatment catalysts were developed to facilitate higher conversion in FCC for the purpose of residue reduction. The study focused on hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) activity of pretreatment catalyst in order to improve FCC crackability of treated vacuum gas oil (VGO). Coma/Al 2 O 3 catalysts were prepared with phosphoric acid, boric acid, and lanthanum nitrate, and the effects of those additives on the acidity and active metal dispersion were investigated. The developed catalyst showed superior HDN activity, and the treated oil gave less bottom yields without any octane number loss of FCC gasoline.
