TECH PREP AS A CATALYST FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Tech Prep, as a school reform movement, is aimed at strengthening the academic preparation of students who typically pursue programs in the trades and technologies , ultimately leading to employment or further education. Tech Prep has resulted in several far-reaching outcomes for associate's degree technical education programs across Virginia's community colleges. Tech Prep in Virginia, as a result of its charter and plan, has fostered the following: (a) structured curriculum design and development; (b) closer liaisons with business and industry; (c) program development in high-demand, high-tech industries; (d) contextual learning opportunities for the student; (e) closer liaisons and dialog with secondary schools; and (f) a compliment to local workforce and economic development.
