Entwicklung innovativer Gleitlagerwerkstoffe auf Al-Bi-Basis (Teil1)

2008
Monotectic alloys possess a large potential for the employment as high-duty sliding bearings. This team project succeeded in developing a production process to the production of environmentally friendly sliding bearing materials on basis of the binary system Al-Bi with a miscibility gap in the liquid state. The special characteristics of these alloys and the reached fine distribution of the bismuth as the minority phase in the aluminum matrix, both in the cast condition and after the subsequent treatment by rolling and roll bonding steps show very good tribological characteristics. For practice the employment of such alloys means an avoidance of cost-intensive coatings for the creation of suitable running-in layers. Furthermore the developed materials on basis Al-Bi fulfill the demand of renouncement of lead in newly developed sliding bearing materials.
