ISSN 2277-3843 Original Article CHARACTERIZATION OF RHIZOBIUM ISOLATES OF PIGEON PEA RHIZOSPHERE FROM ALLAHABAD SOILS AND THEIR POTENTIAL PGPR CHARACTERISTICS

2013
PGPR function in three different ways synthesizing particular compounds for the plants facilitating the uptake of certain nutrients from the soil and lessening or preventing the plants from diseases. Rhizobium has been noted as PGPR in almost all review articles. Some of Plant growth promoting characteristics such as Indole acetic acid (IAA) capacity, ability to produce ammonia (NH3) as sole nitrogen source and production of hydrogen cyanide were evaluated in three Rhizobacteria isolated from rhizosphere of pigeon pea. HCN production was observed in 33% isolates, among test isolates In this study, all the isolates were able to produce Indole acetic acid (IAA) and Production of ammonia was commonly detected in the isolates of Rhizobium (66%). Among these isolates, isolate YSY-25 were tolerant to all the heavy metals (200 μg ml -1
