Carbohydrate derivatives of rapamycin.

A carbohydrate derivative rapamycin having the structure of formula (I): wherein, R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen or XZ, where n = 0 or 1; and wherein each X is a linker, and each Z is independently selected carbohydrate moiety from the group consisting of a monosaccharide, oligosaccharide or pseudosugar wherein Z is attached to X through the oxygen atom of a hydroxyl Z with provided that R1 and R2 are not both hydrogen; and wherein X is selected from the group consisting of: (i) -R3C (O) -, (ii) -C (O) R3-; (Iii) -R3S (O) 2-; and (iv) -S (O) 2R3; wherein R3 is selected from the group consisting of: (a) - (CH2) p- where p is an integer from 1 to 18; (B) - (CH2) -O- (CH2) m- where n and m are each independently an integer from 2 to 6; and (c) a bond.
