APPALACHIAN CORRIDOR H: AN OPERATIONAL GIS-T

1992
Of primary concern on large transportation corridor studies are the potential impacts upon the natural and human environments. Prior to the implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIs) as an analytical tool, the cost effectiveness of environmental studies had delayed or eliminated many transportation corridor development projects. GIS technology has given transportation planners the opportunity to analyze thousands of acres of corridor alternatives and thus avoid and/or minimize adverse impacts to environmentally sensitive areas.
