The comparative investigation of the conversion of high-molecular hetero-organic compounds (HMHOC) isolated from the heavy oil in the course of thermolysis and biodegradation is carried out. Based on a detailed analysis of group composition and structural characteristics of the HMHOC (resins and asphaltenes) the peculiarities their thermal and biochemical decomposition are revealed. It is found that the destruction of resins and asphaltenes in the course of their thermal treatment is 96.86 and 71.67% wt., respectively. The HMHOC are found to be available for the oxidation by soil microorganisms, so the utilization of resins is 41.5% wt. after 180 days of the experiment and that of asphaltenes is 35.0% wt. It is shown that biodegradation of resins and asphaltenes occurs predominantly upon the detachment of peripheral paraffin structures, while the aromatic nucleus is significantly less transformed.
