Analysis of the clinical features of 1 023 psychological counselees in comprehensive hospitals

Objective To investigate the clinical features of psychological counselees in comprehensive hospitals and to probe into the counseling approaches and clinical indications.Methods Data of 1 023 counselees of psychological consultation for their first visit in 2002-2005.Results Most counselees were young adults disturbed by neurosis and general psychological problems,which were characterized by learning difficulty,job problems,physical health,family and love problems,spouse relationship,interpersonal relationships,sexual problems,ailments and emotional problems,etc.,with different distributions in gender and age.Conclusion Most problems consulted in comprehensive hospitals had a wide range of concern,mainly focused on mild mental disorders and general psychological problems,in contrast to professional mental health institutions.It is advisable that comprehensive hospitals should open and strengthen their service of psychological consultation for in-patients,improve their competence of diagnosis and treatment so as to meet the increasing demands for mental health in a competitive world.
