Proposal: From the recovery of the relationship between humanizing concepts and the nature of the value desired by the residents, this paper presents a proposal for integration of qualitative knowledge in the design of collective housing. Methods: The concepts originated from selected patterns among the various originally identified by Christopher Alexander and team in 1977, which were analyzed on base of national housing design winners. A methodological strategy had been developed relating humanizing concepts and the properties attached to them, representing qualities of the built environment that can recover a sense of urbanity and a sense of dwelling, associated with the nature of value under multidimensional and subjective lenses. Findings: The strategy could be a flexible base that allows for contributing to future architecture design so as to narrowing the distance between good intentions and the effective fulfillment of varied human needs facilitated by more sustainable settlements. Thus, waiting also contribute to the advancement of thought and practice of architecture
