Stress-induced transformation and textures in pseudoelastic CuAlMnZn shape memory alloy deformed in tension

2002
Neutron powder diffraction and texture studies of CuAlMnZn shape-memory alloy (SMA) were performed in situ under tensile loads. The specimens were deformed up to 3% strain and the texture evolution in the austenite and stress-induced martensite was investigated. Small texture variations in austenite are discussed with the help of the SMA pseudoelasticity model. Very strong textures observed in the stress-induced martensite result from the preferential martensite-variant selection due to the applied tensile stress. The drawing fiber texture of the parent phase is inherited by the martensite texture through the mechanism of lattice correspondence associated with the martensitic transformation.
