Interview with Bruno Karsenti and Cyril Lemieux about their essay, Socialisme et sociologie, Paris, Éditions de l’EHESS, 2017 ( “Cas de figure” series)

2019
In their book published in 2017 under the title Socialisme et sociologie, the philosopher Bruno Karsenti and the sociologist Cyril Lemieux opened a new perspective on the ideologies that structure modern political thought. In the interview they give here to Raisons politiques, they return to the consequences of their approach. This one, inspired by Karl Mannheim’s work and by those of the French sociological school (Durkheim, Mauss), leads to define socialism in its irreducibility to other political doctrines. It also obliges to open the file of the contribution of the social sciences to the policy. Finally, it leads to a different diagnosis on the expansion of xenophobic nationalism and the crisis of the social-democratic apparatuses today in Europe, and on the form that educational policies and the ecological struggle must take to rise to the level of requirements specific to our societies.
