Viscoelastic effects in film casting

1995
By means of the finite element method, we analyze viscoelastic effects on the film casting process. The stretched sheet is considered as a viscoelastic membrane. We discover dramatic effects directly related to the memory and the extensional behavior of the fluid. In particular, we show that viscoelasticity explains the edge beading phenomenon which affects the thickness distribution of cast film.
