The maximum useful bandwidth of a radar

2004
The paper discusses the factors which affect the bandwidth which should be chosen for a radar's transmissions. It highlights the importance of clutter reduction and resistance to interception, as well as the limits due to target splitting, the bandwidths available from various elements, particularly phased array antennas, and the available frequency allocations. It concludes that, whilst theoretically sub-optimal, pulse to pulse agility is likely to be very cost-effective in many practical cases.
