Regulation of mRNA turnover in cystic fibrosis lung disease

Various trans ‐factors ( RNA ‐binding proteins and/or miRNAs ) interact with cis ‐elements on the mRNA 3′‐ UTR sequences and regulate the expression of F508del‐ CFTR and proinflammatory chemokine and cytokine genes (like IL ‐8 and IL ‐6) in the cystic fibrosis airway. The concerted effect of these factors and the resulting complex regulatory network regulate the CF disease phenotype.
