Luxatio erecta in infants

1990
Traumatic dislocations of the shoulder joint in infancy are rare, and they are usually associated with obstetrical paralysis. The only case of luxatio erecta in infancy reported was also associated with obstetrical paralysis. Here we report two cases of infants with luxatio erecta, as a complication of conservatIve treatment for Erb-Duchenne type obstetrical paralysis. Open reduction resulted in a stable joint in both infants. The parents and physicians should be alerted to this complication.
