Stereoselective synthesis of (-)-pestalotin

The asymmetric synthesis of (-)-pestalotin is described using OsO4-catalyzed asymmetric dihydroxylation and utilization of substituted aromatic system as a masked β-ketoester as the key steps in the reaction sequence.
