Prevalence of Iron Deficiency and Health-related Quality of Life Among Female Military Personnel

Objective To explore prevalence of iron deficiency and examine the relationship between iron status and health-related quality of life among female military personnel.Methods Totally 608 Totally female military personnel and aged 19~38 years old were selected,they were enlisted women in the certain unit of Army,and based on SF-36 questionnaire,their health-related quality of life and iron status of serum iron were investigated,According to the rate of serum iron,subjects were divided into three groups:iron deficiency group(serum iron15μg/L),iron borderline group(serum iron(15~20μg/L)and iron replete(serum iron20μg/L).Those 3 groups of menstruating female military personnel were compared health-related quality of life using univariate analysis.Results The prevalence of iron deficiency was 18.2%,the prevalence of borderline iron status was 10.3%.In terms of the SF-36 questionnaire,the only significant difference between iron deficient and iron replete groups.From health aspect think,which was significantly lower of health-related quality of life in iron deficient group.Conclusion Iron deficiency to impair the perceived general health in female military personnel,and need further research to comfirm it.
