Indoor Human Localization and Interior Structure Mapping using WiFi Signals

2018
We investigate the indoor human localization and interior structural mapping using 802.11 WiFi signals. We proposed a high resolution algorithm for the joint estimation of propagation delay and micro-Doppler. The human location was estimated based on the distance derived from propagation delay and the relative velocity derived from Doppler frequency. The presence of an interior structure, like a pillar in the room, was detected by the variance in the propagation delay. Extensive experiments are conducted. The results show that we can correctly estimate the walking speed of the target human and his distance from the receiver. We also show that by moving the receiver outside the room we can correctly identify the existence and location of a pillar inside the room.
