Pion (and muon) production by antiprotons on light and heavy nuclei
2008
The possibility of producing pions (muons) for muon‐catalyzed fusion by antiproton annihilation in nuclear targets is considered and compared with other methods involving nuclear projectiles and targets. Although the kinematical properties of pions produced by antiproton annihilation are very attractive, the energy cost per pion is not competitive with that of the other methods. This arises from the cost of producing antiprotons.
