We report on the crystal growth and spectroscopy of novel orthorhombic Tm:KY(MoO4)2 crystals with a layered structure. CW 2-μm laser operation in cleaved single-crystal plates and films of Tm:KY(MoO4)2 (thickness: down to 70 μm) is achieved.
