Thermoluminescence induced by x-ray or ultraviolet irradiation at low temperatures in NaCl:Eu2+

The thermal recovery processes after 77 K irradiation with X-ray or ultraviolet light lying in the high-energy absorption of Eu2+ ions have been investigated for NaCl:Eu. It has been ascertained that the TL glow curves are essentially the same for both cases. The TL emission spectrum comprises the intrinsic bands as well as the characteristic emission of Eu2+ ions. The possible mechanisms for the origin of the light emission and for the glow peaks have been discussed.
