Efficient Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks based on Awareness of Link Quality

Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a wireless network which permits users to communicate with each other through multi hop relaying without the support of any fixed infrastructure. However, this kind of network still faces many problems during communication due to resource constraints, node mobility and dynamic topology. Due to the complex structure and continuous node movement, link failure occurs frequently and causes packet loss during routing. Therefore, this paper presents an efficient routing algorithm i.e. AODV based on Awareness of Link Quality (ALQ-AODV) to address link failure issue. The proposed scheme selects the final path on the basis of link quality, node’s residual energy and degree of an intermediate node. Moreover, list of neighbor nodes are maintained on the basis of signal strength parameter while receiving hello packets. Simulation outcomes prove that the proposed ALQ -AODV outperforms AODV.
