Systems and methods for detecting a solenoid armature movement

2010
A method for detecting the actuation of an armature, which is associated with an electromagnet, has providing a voltage potential to a solenoid coil, which is associated with the electromagnet. The method also includes measuring a current flowing through the solenoid coil. The method further includes eliminating the voltage potential when the measured current reaches a predetermined maximum value. The method also has to switch on the voltage potential when the measured current reaches a predetermined minimum value. The method further includes to measure a halt period between pulses associated with the turning on and off the voltage potential voltage potential. The method also includes analyzing successive interrupt periods in order to detect an armature movement and placement of the anchor. The method further includes, based on the comparison of interrupt periods to determine a pull-in time of an armature, which is associated with the electromagnet.
