This paper presents structural analysis of 52 meter-high ladder structure for fire protection using a commercial finite element program. Displacements and stresses due to the ladder deadweight and the external load are calculated using the ANSYS program. The maximum tensile stress and the maximum compressive stress are calculated as 25.4 kgf/mm2 and -27.5 kgf/mm2, respectively, and these stress level is evaluated comparatively high to secure the safety of the structure being loaded by the ladder weight itself and the applied load of 300 kgf. It is found that a modification in thickness of two members around the hydraulic loading point leads to much lower stress 1evel. To examine the results of the analysis, a structural test using strain gages was performed.
