We propose a combined technology of surface hardening of high carbon steels consisting of laser alloying with subsequent nitriding. It makes possible to obtain hardened layers with the thickness up to 700 microns with microhardness of up to 12000 MPa. Technological parameters of laser treatment allowing obtaining on the surface of the carbon steel alloy layers with a fine-grained structure and dispersed carbides were defined.
