Operation of 150 kA Prebaked Furnaces with Automatic Voltage Control

An account is given of the up-to-date information on anode effect in high amperage electrolytic cells. A special analogue apparatus detecting the voltage increase occurring before anode effect is described in detail. This apparatus, tested on 150-KA prebaked anode cells, permitted operation control and alumina feeding control prior to anode effect. It was thus possible to reduce the specific electrical energy consumption.
