A composição corporal está associada ao componente aeróbio, potência e força nas artes marciais mistas (MMA)

2019
Introduction: Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a combat sport that mixes striking and grappling techniques, with specific demands for variables of physical and corporal aptitude. Objective: To verify and correlate the physical and body composition capacities of MMA athletes. Methods: Ten male athletes participated in the study. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to calculate the correlations between the measured physical capacities and the body composition measurements, with the significance established at P < 0.05. Results: The body fat percentage presented negative correlation (p = 0.01, r = - 0.717) with the height of the counter movement jump, with the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) (p = 0.039, r = - 0.58). In addition, the lean mass was positively correlated with the absolute load of the bench press (p = 0.007, r = 0.741) and squat (p = 0.014, r = 0.686) exercises. Conclusion: Body composition can positively and negatively influence the performance of MMA athletes.
