ofpatients),thepyramidaltract(30%),thebrainstem(13%), andthespinalanteriorhorncellsorperipheralnerve(10%; frequently upper limb predominant); 11% of patients did notdevelopcerebellarataxia.Serologicalandneuropathologicalfindingswereobservedinthecerebellum,thebrainstem,thespinalcord,theanteriorhorn,andthedorsalroot ganglionthatparalleledthediversityofclinicalsigns.After amedianfollow-upof18months,1ormorecarcinomashad beendetectedin88%ofpatients:ovarianepithelialcancer (53%), breast cancer (22%), fallopian tubal cancer (11%), primaryperitonealcancer(5%),metastasesofunknownprimary cancer (4%), and other cancers (4%). Sustained improvement was reported in 15% of patients following oncologicalorimmunologicaltherapies.Voltage-gatedcalcium channel antibodies coexisted in 23 patients (28%).
