Cutaneous melanoma and oral contraceptives

1994
This report updates and expands an earlier review on cutaneous malignant melanoma and oral contraceptive use in case-control and cohort studies and adds studies published in English through 1992 [1]. The relationship between cutaneous malignant melanoma and characteristics of female endocrine status was of considerable interest among those who studied melanoma in the decade of the 1980s and early in the 1990s. During this period, several case-control and cohort studies on this topic were published with somewhat mixed results. Overall, the larger case-control studies conducted later in the 1980s found no association between the use of oral contraceptives (OCs) and melanoma.
