Abstract Aquaculture plays a big role in eradicating hunger, malnutrition, and nutrient deprivation globally. Fish can be a good source of essential nutrients for human beings as it is rich in essential amino acids and minerals. Fish are categorized as lean, semifatty, or fatty. Comparatively, they contain a large amount of eicosapentaenoic (C20:5) acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (C22:6) acid (DHA). They are a good source of B vitamins, and fatty fishes are particularly rich in vitamins A and D. Nonprotein nitrogen fraction of fish plays a major role in fish quality. Many scientific studies indicate that fish consumption has positive effects on human health. It has anticancer properties and reduces blood cholesterol. Fish is a good source of easily digestible protein, high-quality peptides, and polyunsaturated fatty acids apart from vitamins and trace elements. Because of good health aspects, fish oils have been marketed for centuries. Internationally, consumers spend billions of dollars each year to reap the health benefits of EPA- and DHA-rich fish oils. In addition to their cardiovascular benefits, these oils are sought after for health benefits associated with the brain and eyes, as well as multiple inflammatory conditions. This paper deals with the importance of fish in nutrition and their beneficial effects for humans.
