Effect of osmotic stress on the activity of glutathione S-transferase in calli of wheat

Change in the activity of glutathione S-transferase in calli of two wheat variety different in drought resistance was compared. The data showed that, at the early stage, the activities of GST in the calli under osmotic stress were higher than those of the control; those under heavier stress were higher than under lighter stress; but at the late stage the activity of GST in calli of wheat Xiaoyan 22 under lighter osmotic stress was significantly higher than that of control or had no significant difference with that of control and the activity of GST in calli of Zhengyin 1 under stress was obviously lower than that of control. We concluded that GST might involve in cell adapting response to osmotic stress.
