ESTIMATION OF GROUNDWATER CHEMICAL STATUS IN SĘKOWKA RIVER CATCHMENT AREA Abstract. Water Framework Directive (RDW, 2000) requires establishing two programmes, which should cover monitoring of the chemical and quantitative status of groundwaters. The monitoring network for the chemical status assessment of groundwaters shall be designed so as to provide a comprehensive overview of chemical status within each river basin and shall permit identification of long-term trends of variations in groundwater quality. In this paper the chemical status assessment of groundwater of the south part of Sekowka River catchment area was presented, conducted in accordance with above requirements and using own field and laboratory research results. Laboratory results were verified on the base of analyses errors calculated as per the ionic balance. The hydrogeochemical types were specified in accordance with the Szczukariew-Priklonski classification. The chemical status assessment of groundwater was conducted in point and area configuration, according to Polish (RMOE, 2008) and UE (RDW, 2000) regulations.
