Evaluation of economic benefits and health hazards of small wind turbines: case study of Latvia

2021
The article analyzes the investment profitability of wind turbine installation for households, evaluating several cases. These calculations were based on the hourly electricity consumption of Latvian users and NordPool electricity prices. In the article, calculations are made for economic criteria - net present value (NPV), profitability index (PI), payback time, levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and internal rate of return. The result is data that helps to understand the situation in the household if they choose to install wind turbines and whether they need support mechanisms. Legislators can work with the data to improve support mechanisms. In addition, the impact of wind generators on human health is being assessed.
