Balanced diet and physical activity are the leading factors in the promotion and keeping good health throughout our entire lives. It is responsible for the child's emotional, mental and social development, and it is highly important during the adolescence for the child to reach its full potential. The research about the nutritional status and dietary habits of school pupils (aged 11 to 14 years) was carried out in May/June of 2013 in urban and rural environments. The total of 651 pupils have participated in the research. The data about their attitudes, dietary habits and the differences between the pupils from the urban or rural environments have been obtained by the questionnaire Healthy way of life the diet. The research findings showed that the majority of pupils have normal body weight (73,73%). The irregularities in the nutritional status are more often observed with the boys. The pupils' dietary habits correspond to the environment they live in, having in mind that the pupils from the rural environment have breakfast more often, while the pupils from the urban environment eat fruit and whole grains more often. With the increase in age, the pupils' dietary habits become more irregular (irregular breakfast eating, decreased intake of fruits and vegetables, increased intake of sweets, snack food, fast food and soft drinks). The concern about physical appearance is higher among the girls. Pupils' bad habits usually appear in the higher school years. The physical activity of the pupils is decreasing as their age increases, while the number of hours spent on the computer and in front of the TV increase.
