Evaluación de conocimientos sobre el uso clínico de antibióticos en residentes de pediatría de un hospital pediátrico de la ciudad de México

Objective: to identify the level of basic knowledge about antibacterial agents and the clinical use of residents of the Mexico Children’s Hospital “Federico Gomez” (himfg). Material and methods: prospective, cross-sectional, analytical and comparative study through the application of an anonymous questionnaire in order to evaluate the knowledge of medical residents from the first, second, and third year of Pediatrics and several pediatric specialties of the medical and surgical areas. The control group was composed of residents of the course of infectious diseases. Results: 161 residents were evaluated, it was observed important statistically differences with the control group of infectious diseases (p= 0.9). No differences were found when comparing residents of the medical and surgical areas (p=0.86). There was consensus that a Committee is needed in order to control and moderate the use of antibacterial agents. Conclusions: the basic knowledge of antibacterial agents in medical residents who enter the himfg is 60%. The diffusion of knowledge (maximum and minimum per year of residence) decreases as they continue their Residency in Pediatrics
