A COMPARISON OF POROSITY IN DIFFERENT KINDS OF ACRYLIC RESINS POLYMERIZED BY MICROWAVE ENERGY AND CONVENTIONAL WATER BATH CURING SYSTEMS Anahtar Sozcukler: Mikrodalga polimerizasyonu, porozite. Bu calismada, farkli kalinlik ve yapilardaki cesitli akrilik recinelerin mikrodalga enerjisi ve su icinde kaynatma yontemi ile polimerizasyonu, porozite acisindan karsilastinlmistir. Bu amacla secilen 4 cins akrilik recineden cesitli polimerizasyon yontemleriyle 3 ayn kalinlikta ornekler hazirlanmistir. Mikrodalga firininda, polimerizasyon icin farkli guc ve sureleri iceren programlar denenmistir. Polimerize edilen akrilik recine ornekleri porozitelerine gore 4 degisik gruba ayrilarak degerlendirilmistir. Sonuc olarak secilen akrilik recine orneklerinin su icinde kaynatma ve mikrodalga yontemleri ile polimerizasyonu arasinda porozite acisindan anlamli bir farklilik bulunmamistir. Mikrodalga firinin daha dusuk guclerde kullanimi ile, su icinde kaynatma yontemine oranla daha kisa surede porozitesiz kalin akrilik recine orneklerinin polimerize edilebilecegi gorulmustur. Key words: Microwave polymerization, porosity. The application of microwave energy to the polymerization of denture base acrylic resins was compared with conventional water bath curing systems. Comparison was made in porosity of four acrylic resins with three different thickness. For this purpose, microwave oven was set for different power and exposure time. Test specimens were evaluated in four groups. As a result no significant difference was found when microwave curing was compared with water bath curing sysetms in porosity. Thus, microwave polymerization of acrylic resins can provide thick specimens without porosity in a shorter time than water bath curing when the wattage is reduced.
