Magnetization of Zn0.95Mn0.05Te in magnetic fields up to 42 T.
1987
The magnetization versus magnetic field in Zn/sub 0.95/Mn/sub 0.05/Te has been measured at 1.6 K in a pulsed high magnetic field up to 42 T. The first, second, and the beginning of the third magnetization step corresponding to the nearest-neighbor (NN) manganese-ion-pair magnetization are observed. The analysis of the data in the framework of a generalized cluster model leads to three main results: (i) the exchange constant between NN Mn ions is J/k/sub B/ = -8.8 +- 0.1 K; (ii) the contribution of three Mn ion clusters becomes non-negligible for magnetic fields higher than 20 T; (iii) the results support a random distribution of Mn ions.
