Bactérias isoladas de ovos de avestruz descartados no período de incubação

2006
It was observed bacterial contamination in 17 (81 %) out of 21 culled eggs from ostrich, during incubation period. Escherichia coli was the most frequent microorganism isolated (7 samples, 33 %), followed by Pseudomonas sp (4 samples, 19.05 %), being found cross contamination into 3 eggs with both microorganisms (14.29 %). It is believed that there is correlation between climatic conditions at the day of laying eggs and bacterial contamination, since 10 out of 21 culled eggs were layed in rainy days and 5 under high humidity conditions. Also, management practices as collection of eggs only in the morning, washing instead of the use of fumigation could be influencing for bacterial contamination.
