Characteristics for an integrated information system for management of recycling electronic waste

2015
The stimulus to consumption and life cycle of electronic products encourages the appearance of companies specializing in the recovery of secondary raw materials for disposal or for manufacture of new products. Reverse logistics is the activity that deals with the management of these discharges and reuse of recovered raw materials. However, because of particular characteristics of the Information Systems used in current activities of direct logistics and they not support the management of reverse logistics, especially in relation to recycling these types of waste. This study aims to present the necessary features or functionality of an Information System in the recycling of waste electronics in reverse logistics operation process. This study is based on research that evaluated the adequacy carried out by companies in information systems to logistics direct and the gaps for reverse logistics, and proposes a set of characteristics/functionalities so that these systems can support the reverse logistics recycling of electronic waste.
