Three dimensional reconstruction of anatomical structures in later skull base based on sectional frozen slices dataset of temporal bone

2007
OBJECTIVE To discuss the methods for reconstruction of delicate structures in lateral skull base based on frozen slices and to enrich the visible human being research . METHODS Delicate structures of temporal bone were reconstructed using volume rending software and frozen slices database of one temporal bone . RESULTS Three-dimensional anatomical models of main temporal bone structures such as auditory ossicles, tensor tympanic muscle ,facial nerve, vestibule and cochlear, semicircular cannals, internal jugular artery, sigmoid sinus, posterior group cranial nerve, inferior petrosal sinus, middle meningeal artery, trigeminal nerve, posterior inferior cerebellar artery, vestibular aqueduct ,cochlear aqueduct were reconstructed. These structures can be displayed singly and grouply and be rotated and cut at any angle, interactive browsing can be realized. CONCLUSION Three-dimensional visualization of delicate structures in lateral skull base could be realized based on fresh frozen slices of temporal bone. Digitization techniques which combine computer technique and anatomy provides best platform for anatomical study and operative simulation and has great significance for advancing development of lateral skull base surgery.
