The Effect of Some Antibiotics on Interferon Production

The commonly used antibacterial drugs are selected on the basis of their effect on the structure and function of prokaryotic cells but they are not devoid of action on eukaryotic cells. This can be due to the fact that eukaryotic cells include prokaryotic-like structures (such as mitochondria) and have several functions and metabolic mechanisms very similar to the prokaryotic ones.
