High-Resolution Range Profiles of Artillery Shells in UHF and VHF Bands

2020
Wideband (ultrawideband) radar responses of two type artillery shells with various electrical sizes and shape are investigated. Computer technique based on magnetic field integral equation solving was used for obtaining high-resolution radar range profiles (HRRPs) of considered objects in UHF and VHF bands, and for two sounding signal bandwidth. Obtained results show that the using of sounding signals with 100… 300 MHz bandwidth in counter-battery radars allows effective non-cooperative radar identification of artillery shells and rockets of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRSs) without using a large database of radar profiles for various aspect angles of shells.
