Erholungsnutzung an bergbaubeeinflussten Gewässern im Ballungsraum Leipzig-Halle: Probleme aus limnologischer Sicht

2003
During the last decades the changing leisure activities of the German population demanded an increasing use of recreational waters. Until now the effects of such activities have rarely been taken into any limnological considerations, although the mid term and long term protection of any recreational use is closely associated with the preservation of clean and attractive water quality. There are great expectations concerning the re-use of formerly devasted open pit mine areas. This article explains the requirements to judge recreational use in individual cases, as well as its total effect on these waters, in order to make a specific, factually founded decision for the permission, restriction or exclusion of any recreational use. An example is described with the Central Germany mining industry's effect on the surrounding countryside.
