The behaviour of cracks under thermal transient loading

In this paper the following topics are addressed: (i) The behaviour of a semielliptical crack on the pressure vessel is treated under thermal transient loading. It is shown that the final shape of the crack will be ac = 0.2. (ii) The effect of cladding are evaluated both in 2-D and 3-D cases, (iii) A nozzle corner crack initiated by the thermal fatigue is evaluated in the cases of with and without cladding. The effectiveness of the cladding is shown quantitatively.
