Professional practice as a theoretical source of pedagogy and Pedagogists as a specialized professional and apical figure with expertise, decision making and professional responsibility. The text recalls aspects of the history of pedagogy with the aim of capturing some of today’s set-ups both as science and as a profession. Scientific tendencies and professional trends don’t hinder, however, the gradual emergence of skills, role-playing styles, and the role of “Pedagogist as Practitioner”, even though there is a strong debt in Italy concerning the set of rules.
