An abrasive-resistant corundum ceramic for drawing microwires

1982
A corundum ceramic containing a very small amount of glass phase and having a high density and strength has been developed. The structure of such a ceramic is represented by round grains of corundum. This provides a high class of surface finish and little roughness after grinding and polishing. The tests of the drawing rings made from this ceramic carried out at the Metallurgical Combine showed that the durability of the ceramic is 48 times greater than that of metal rings.
