Polymer battery packed with laminated film : Special issue on lithium-ion rechargeable batteries

2000
The fabrication of a polymer battery packed with laminated film has been investigated. The thermostable and infusible seal polymer in laminated film has been prepared with the post reaction causing a cross-linking of the polymer chain. Based on the lithium-ion system utilizing a Mn-spinel, the lightweight and thin type polymer battery of IML320365 has been fabricated for mobile phones with excellent electrochemical properties, i.e., high capacity in a wide temperature range (-20 ∼ 60°C), long cycle life (Capacity >70% at 500 cycle) and good safety. By displacing the package material from Al-canned case to the laminated film, the energy density of the battery increases from 130 to 160 Wh/kg. For a notebook-type personal computer, the large-capacity polymer battery of IML340965 has been prepared with adhesive polymer particle which is penetrated into the prismatically wound jerry-roll layers, making it possible to pack with laminated film without capacity loss or cell deformation. These polymer batteries should be useful for various electronics equipment.
