Every year companies invest huge amounts of money in training courses for their employees. To offer successful courses, key influencing factors must be known. However, research in this field is very limited. Therefore, an empirical study has been conducted at Daimler AG to identify relevant personal characteristics and environmental factors for training success. The results show the significant impact of the environment of training participants. Particularly trainers that are competent in didactics, a strong focus on target group as well as supervisor support are key factors for training effectiveness. Relating to personal characteristics previous knowledge and extrinsic motivation to learn appeared to be the most important influencing factors.
