Method for the production of an isocyanate, which includes (i) Hydrogenation of a mixture (Mi) containing an amine in the presence of a copper-containing hydrogenation catalyst, to obtain a mixture (Mii) containing the amine; (ii) reaction of the mixture (Mii) with phosgene to obtain a mixture (5 Miii) containing the isocyanate.
